Skinopi Lodge

Seven stone villas on a slope above the sea, among olive trees, lavender and thyme, over the fishing village of Skinopi. No spa and no restaurant; the villa, the cove below, and silence.

Seven stone villas spread across nine acres of unworked land above the Bay of Milos, beside the small fishing village of Skinopi. Each is named for what grows around it: Kapari, Anemone and Thymari sit among the herbs, then Almyra, Elies, Levanda and Skinos, set between olive trees, lavender and thyme. They run from 30 square metres of interior on a 60-metre footprint up to Skinos at 85 on 160, and every villa has an outdoor kitchen and an indoor-outdoor shower, so most of living here happens outside. They are made of local stone and modelled on the syrmata, the fishermen's houses in the village just below. A private path drops to the lodge's own deck on the Aegean, a few steps above the water. You will want a car, because the remoteness is deliberate. The architect's stay in the Cyclades.
