Osteria Al Squero

Directly across the canal from Squero di San Trovaso — the working gondola repair yard — this Dorsoduro bacaro pairs €2 cicchetti with a working-boatyard view.

Twelve seats inside, none outside, but the whole sidewalk along the canal is fair game. Get an ombra (€1.50–2), a baccalà mantecato crostino, a polpetta or two, and sit on the stone steps watching gondolas getting their hulls scraped at one of the last working squeri in the city. The cicchetti are plain and the canal does the rest.
