Hala says

The long, low island across the Giudecca canal, historically the working-class side of Venice: shipyards, factories, the original Stucky flour mill (now a Hilton). Walk the fondamenta west to east and Dorsoduro and San Marco sit across the water the whole way. Palladio's Il Redentore anchors the middle.
