Mount Zas, Naxos

A real walk, not a stroll: steep, exposed, often windy. The trailhead is at the chapel of Agia Marina above Filoti. The summit is rocks and a small white cross; the view extends to almost every other Cycladic island on a clear day. Best in May/June or September; don't attempt it at July or August midday. Stout shoes, two litres of water per person.
