A Plaka distillery bar going since 1909, and the whole room is the back wall: coloured bottles lit from behind, floor to ceiling, with old barrels of spirits still in use underneath. Michael Brettos started it with ouzo, brandy and a handful of liqueurs made to family recipes brought from Smyrni, and the liqueur list now runs past 35 flavours, from cherry and peppermint to citrus and mastiha. It works as a shop as well as a bar, so you can leave with a bottle. It is touristy, and there is no pretending otherwise, but it is a very easy answer to an evening with no plan, and the bar seats about fifteen, so book rather than turn up. Open 10 a.m. to 3 a.m., every day.
