Masseria Il Frantoio
The Cut· research-verified, not yet visited
A 16th-century olive-oil masseria that still makes its own DOP oil. Dinner is an eight-course tasting served in the courtyard.
Run by the same family for thirty years: Armando Balestrazzi and his wife Rosalba, who lead the tasting meals themselves. The masseria is old, and the rooms are filled with the family's antiques, and the working olive press in the basement is why the property exists. Sixteen rooms in the 19th-century section of the structure (high ceilings, original floors, antique furniture), a pool, and gardens that wander out into the olive grove. The Itria Valley base of references.
