A 15th-century convent in the old centre of UNESCO-listed Pienza, restored into a cool-headed 12-room hotel by a former NYC music executive.
John Voigtmann, the former New York record producer behind bands like the Strokes, Foo Fighters and Christina Aguilera, gave it all up for Pienza. He and his wife Ondine (a travel writer) converted a 15th-century former convent on Corso Il Rossellino 111 into this 12-room townhouse (four of them suites): pared-back rooms with exposed stone walls, beamed white-painted ceilings, a vinyl-record library lounge with an honesty bar. The Townhouse Caffè downstairs serves Val d'Orcia cooking. Pienza itself is the bonus: cobblestoned, UNESCO-listed, and small enough to walk in twenty minutes.
